Poha Pakoda(Patties or cutlet)

Poha pakoda or cutlet is a quick and easy fried snack dish which can be served in the morning breakfast as well as in the evening snack. The flattened rice or poha is very common in northern India.Veg poha cutlet is a very healthy snack, its popular healthy appetizer.

Ingredients:

  • 1cup poha
  • 1/2cup mashed potato
  • 1-2green chili (finely chopped)
  • 1inch ginger piece(finely chopped)
  • 2-3 tbsp fresh coriander(finely chopped)
  • 1tsp Kashmiri chili
  • 5-6 black peppercorns(crushed)
  • 1-2tsp coriander powder
  • 1/3tsp dried mango powder(amchur)
  • 1 1/2tsp cumin seed(roasted and grind)
  • salt to taste
  • oil for deep fry

Method:

Soak poha, in lukewarm water for 1-2 minutes, drain the water and wash with fresh water, squeeze out a little bit of water. Check the texture, it should be mushy.

Put on a plate, then start mashing & kneading like a dough with hands, then add inmeshed potato, green chili, fresh coriander, and allspice, salt. Now start kneading again to form a smooth texture.

Divide the mixture into small portions and shape each portion like a round ball or2 inch diameter flat round cutlet.

Deep fry these in medium flame until golden brown, and light, fry a few at a time, once fried take it out and put it on kitchen towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.

Serve hot with tamarind chutney, green chutney, or tomato sauce.
